| Installation of Small Two Color Decals | |
Caution: The adhesive used on these decals is very strong and meant for permanent installation. Once the decal has been applied, it cannot be removed without destroying the decal. Please follow the installation instructions carefully. Tools/Supplies needed: 1. Tape Measure Preparation: 1. Mix a solution of liquid dish soap and water. Use approximately 4 drops of liquid detergent per 16 Oz of water (spray bottle is recommended). 2. Clean the surface thoroughly using Glass Cleaner to remove all traces of wax, grease, or dirt. (Tip: We recommend wiping down area with alcohol after cleaning). Installation of the First Color: 1. Place the decal in the desired position and hold it in place
using masking tape, as shown (Figure A).
2. When you are satisfied with the placement, fold the decal back using the masking tape as a hinge (Figure B). 3. Carefully remove the backing paper (Figure B), taking care not to let the decal fold over on itself or touch any other surfaces (a few fingerprints will not affect the adhesion). 4. Thoroughly wet the surface where the decal is to be applied
and the back of the decal. 5. Carefully lay the decal back down on to the wet surface
(Figure C). Using the squeegee, very
gently press the decal into place, working from the center outward. 6. Once the decal has been completely applied, and no wrinkles or
bubbles are apparent, use more force on the squeegee to press out any remaining
liquid. 7. Allow the decal to dry thoroughly (dabbing the paper with a dry towel, helps to speed up the process). Depending on the weather and temperature, drying time will vary (approx 30 minutes). 8. When the decal is completely dry, carefully begin pulling the transfer paper off (Figure D), starting at one corner and working across to the opposite corner. 9. Work slowly during this process, small letters and details may lift up with the transfer paper. If this happens, simply lay the paper back into place, press it down with the squeegee, and allow a little more drying time. 10. Once the transfer paper has been removed, the decal and surrounding area should be gently cleaned using a soft cloth and glass cleaner (Do not scrub the decal). Note: Small bubbles can be removed by sticking the bubble with a needle, and gently pressing the bubble down. Note: You will see three small registration dots on the decal (Figure E). These are required for installation of the second color. Do not remove them at this time. Installation of the Second Color: 11. Carefully remove the backing paper from the second decal (Figure F), being careful not to allow the decal to fold over on itself or touch any surfaces. 12. Using the soap solution, once again thoroughly wet the surface of the first decal and the back of the second decal. 13. With both surfaces wet, gently place the second decal as shown in Figure G (do not press on the surface of the decal at this time). The three red alignment dots should line up directly over the other dots. Small adjustments can be made as long as the surfaces are wet. 14. Once you are satisfied with the placement, go over the decal gently with the squeegee as in paragraph 6 (be careful working around the existing decal). 15. Allow the decal to dry thoroughly as in paragraph 7. 16. Once the decal has completely dried, carefully remove the backing paper Figure H) as in paragraphs 8 and 9. 17. Once the paper has been removed, gently scratch off the three alignment dots, being careful not to scratch the decal. These dots will come off fairly easy at this time. 18. Gently clean the decal and surrounding surfaces as in paragraph 10. Care and Maintenance: 1. Although the decal is now permanent, it requires several days to completely set up. Avoid scrubbing the area around the decal for at least 5 days. Do Not use a pressure washer, automatic car wash, or wax during this time. (After the decal has set up, it is safe to use automatic car washes, and wax). 2. When washing the decal, Do Not use scrapers or scrubbing pads on the vinyl. 3. Regular auto washing detergents should not harm the vinyl. Do not use petroleum-based cleaners, such as kerosene, gasoline, or “Bug and Tar” removers. |
