Installation of Large Banner Decals (Wet Method)
Caution: The adhesive used on these decals is very strong and meant for permanent installation. Once the decal has been applied, it cannot be removed without destroying the decal.
Please follow the installation instructions carefully.
Tools/Supplies needed:
1. Tape Measure
2. Masking Tape
3. Scissors
4. A stiff squeegee or straightedge
5. Soap and water solution
6. Spray Bottle
Preparation:
1. Mix a solution of liquid dish soap and water. Use approximately 4 drops of liquid detergent per 16 Oz of water (spray bottle is recommended).
2. Clean the surface thoroughly using Glass Cleaner to remove all traces of wax, grease, or dirt. (Tip: We recommend wiping down area with alcohol after cleaning).
Installation:
1. Place the decal in the
desired position and hold it in place using masking tape, as shown (Figure
A).
Note: Do not remove the
backing paper or transfer paper at this point.
2. Remove the masking tape from one side and fold the decal back over itself (Figure B). Carefully peel the Backing paper from the Decal, taking care not to let the decal fold over on itself, or touch any surfaces (a couple of fingerprints will not hurt the adhesion).
3.
Carefully cut the exposed
backing paper as shown in (Figure C).
Important: Thoroughly wet the surface where the
decal is to applied and the back of the exposed decal, using the spray
bottle/soap solution.
4. Begin laying the decal back
down. Using the squeegee, gently
press the decal into place, working from the center outward (Figure D).
Note: Do not use too much
pressure at this point. Use the
squeegee only to press out any wrinkles or bubbles.
5. Carefully fold the other half of the decal back and remove the remaining backing paper (Figure E). Refer to Paragraph 2 for details.
6. Thoroughly wet the surface and the transfer paper as described in Paragraph 4.
7. Lay the transfer paper back
down onto the surface following the procedures described in Paragraph 5.
8.
Once the decal has been
completely applied, and no wrinkles or bubbles are apparent, use more
force on the squeegee to press out any remaining liquid (Figure F)
Note:
Pull the squeegee
across the surface. Pushing the
squeegee could tear the wet paper and the vinyl.
9. Allow the decal to dry
thoroughly (dabbing the paper with a dry towel, helps to speed up the
process). Depending on the weather
and temperature, drying time will vary (you should allow at least 30
minutes).
10. When the decal is completely dry, carefully begin pulling the transfer paper off (Figure G), starting at one corner and working across to the opposite corner.
11. Work slowly during this process, small letters and details may lift up with the transfer paper. If this happens, simply press the paper back into place, press it down with the squeegee, and allow a little more drying time.
12. Once the transfer paper has
been removed, the decal and surrounding area should be gently cleaned
using a soft cloth and glass cleaner (Do not scrub the decal).
Care and Maintenance:
1. Although the decal is now permanent, it requires several days to completely set up. Avoid scrubbing the area around the decal for at least 5 days. Do Not use a pressure washer, automatic car wash, or wax during this time. (After the decal has set up, it is safe to use automatic car washes, and wax).
2. When washing the decal, Do Not use scrapers or scrubbing pads on the vinyl.
3. Regular auto washing detergents should not harm the vinyl. Do not use petroleum-based cleaners, such as kerosene, gasoline, or “Bug and Tar” removers.
